ABOUT JOY

Bring healing and connection back into your life.

Aloha, I'm Joy Tanimura Winquist, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and the owner of Pūlama Counseling.  I help survivors, couples, and families just like you; ones that have it within them to heal, reconnect, and thrive again, but just need some support to get there.

I help my clients find confidence, joy, and strength by equipping them with the tools they need to better understand themselves and connect with those they love.

I am dedicated to helping people heal so they can thrive.

Born and raised on Oʻahu, I have worked both in the Chicago area and here at home in the non-profit and education sectors for almost 20 years primarily with abuse and trauma survivors.

I specialize in treating trauma, depression, and relational attachment injuries.  I use a variety of evidenced based and expressive approaches that empower you towards healing and joy:

  • EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy)

  • Theraplay©

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing)

  • Expressive Arts

  • Play

The heart of what I do is to facilitate self-growth and self-worth by helping people heal past wounds, recognize resilience, and move forward with confidence.  My training means I have the expertise you need and deserve.

I love the work that I get to do...especially to help others see the strength and truth inside of them.

Schedule a free 15-minute consultation so we can see if working together would be a good fit.  Just click "Contact me" below to fill out our contact form or call 808.773.4560.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

After graduating with my Master's Degree in Social Work from the Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice at the University of Chicago, I began working with children, teens, and young adults impacted by trauma and family violence in both community and residential settings. I provided group, individual and family counseling, taught classes on the topics of interpersonal violence, abuse and trauma, and developed prevention education curriculum.

In transitioning back to Oʻahu, professionally I have continued to focus on providing therapy primarily to those impacted by trauma, sexual assault, and abuse. I worked with military families in a military counseling center and at local non-profit providing child, individual, and couples counseling and training.
